Cape Range National Park

Established in 1965 and extended in 1974, the national park runs down the peninsula's western side. The park provides a cross-section from the dissected, desert-like plateau to the mangrove swamps, the coastal plains, the lagoon between the shoreline and the Ningaloo Reef, and the sea life beyond the reef.

Milyering Visitor Centre

This visitor centre has a modern design model with earth walls to reduce temperature variations, a composting toilet, solar heating, and extensive natural light. It has books on the region, audio-visual displays, offers light refreshments, and a souvenir shop. They open from 9:00 am – 3:45 pm seven days a week.

Turquoise Bay

Turquoise Bay is known for its clear waters and quiet, white sandy beaches – ideal for snorkelling and swimming.

Yardie Creek

Yardie Creek is a beautiful gorge with a regular flow of water at its mouth. There are boat cruises available that go up the canyon.

Shothole Canyon Road

Shothole Canyon Road is located south of Exmouth. Back in the 1950s, some shotholes were used for seismographic experiments that led into the park's gorges. Thus, this coined the name Shothole Canyon Road. The walls are sheer, the rocks are loose, and the temperature can soar during summer.

Learmonth Solar Observatory

The Solar Observatory is south of Exmouth. White parabolic discs are visible from the road despite being closed to the public. They're a worldwide network of similar stations monitoring solar activity.

Ningaloo Marine Park

Ningaloo is a reef wonderland that stretches south of the coastline from Bundegi Beach, near Exmouth. Its waters are home to magnificent creatures like the great whale shark, humpback whale, green turtles, dolphins and dugongs.

Jurabi Turtle Centre

Located northwest of Exmouth, near the tip of the peninsula, it is the best place to watch sea turtles feeding in the Ningaloo Marine Park. The best times for viewing are between October and January, when female turtles usually visit the beach to lay their eggs under the cover of darkness. From January to April, you'll see new hatchlings dash for the sea at night.

Harold E. Holt Naval Communication Station and VLF (Very Low Frequency) Antenna Field

The station and antenna field are located north of Exmouth via Murat Road. The huge towers are remarkably high. After the military departed the base in 2002, it is now run by Raytheon Australia. The base can be seen from the road, but as a private company runs it, it is not open for inspections.

Vlamingh Lighthouse and Cape Range National Park

Following the 1907 wreck of the SS Mildura led to the building of the Vlamingh Lighthouse. Located just off Yardie Creek Road, the lighthouse was first lit in 1912. Thirty-four years after the first lighting, it was relit using the original kerosene and counterweight system on 14 July 2001.
